Dwight Sargent,
Founder and President of Pompanoosuc Mills
Superior craft is essential, but it's not enough.
Here's something we know… delivering on the promise of great furniture requires so much more than being skilled at the craft of fine furniture making — although it does require mountains of that, too.
When Dwight Sargent started Pompanoosuc Mills more than 30 years ago, he set out to build a full service quality furniture company for people who wanted beautifully handcrafted furniture that was practical for everyday living. And he believed then, as he believes now, that in order to realize this vision, Pompanoosuc Mills would have to maintain control of the entire process from beginning to end. And we continue to believe that this process begins and ends in your home.

We build your trust before we build your furniture
Measure twice, cut once. You've heard the adage and probably have had at least one experience with what happens when you ignore it. Using this same logic, we think sizing up your needs is the critical first step to your furniture order. And that's why we sell only through our own showrooms and factory-trained sales specialists - folks who know what questions to ask and can match what you want with the best of what we have to offer.
Finding the right fit with more than 2,300 standard items (and that's before you choose the wood you want) we probably already have the pieces you're looking for. Still, you might decide that modifying a standard design or designing something custom from the ground up is a better solution. We're happy to oblige. Whichever way works best for you, you'll be confident that (1) you're working directly with a trained Pompanoosuc Mills sales specialist; and (2) we haven't tried to squeeze you into a less than perfect fit.
All doors and drawers are hand fitted and adjusted by experienced craftspeople before the furniture is shipped.
Crafting your vision into a reality you can live with
Once in the shop, your hand-written order will be made a reality by the capable hands of our highly experienced craftspeople - several of whom have been with us for more than 25 years. The proof of their expertise is on proud display on this web site, in our showrooms and in homes throughout the Northeast, the country and the world. And if you'd like to see them at work here in Vermont, we invite you to take a tour of the shop. Give us a call. We'll set it up.
We're not satisfied until you are.
It's time to deliver and we're driving the truck
Now it's time to deliver your furniture, but that doesn't mean we're finished with it. We don't consider the job complete until your furniture is in your home and you're happy with it. To make sure this step goes as smoothly as possible, we have our own fleet of delivery trucks staffed by Pompanoosuc Mills employees who understand the job isn't done until you're satisfied.
